Rabbits


HOUSING - Like all pets, rabbits must have a secure & adequate house (Hutch). This will provide it with a sense of security & protection whether outdoors or in. Letting your rabbit roam free in your yard is not an option. If your rabbit is to live outdoors, you must provide shelter from the elements, and protection from any animals that may wish to harm your rabbit.



VET CARE - Rabbits are hardy little souls, but they also require proper medical attention.This means finding a vet who has studied rabbit medicine, and may also mean they might be dearer than your local vet because of their specialised knowledge. Attempting to treat your rabbit yourself without a correct diagnosis could have disastrous results for your rabbit.



FOOD - Rabbits require good quality food, not only table scraps, grass clippings and weeds. You need to pay for fresh good quality pellets and hay. Grass and weeds are fine, but they must be fresh, and should be a supplement, not the sole diet.



SPAY/NEUTER - Rabbits, both male and females who have been desexed, live longer than undesexed rabbits. In females, the risk of reproductive cancers such as Ovarian, Uterine and Mammarian are almost eliminated by spaying, where as in males, the chance of Testicular cancer is removed. Rabbits that are desexed (especially males), are calmer and more loving, and less likely to behave in a destructive manner, such as chewing, digging and fighting.
