Most people at some time or another have kept birds. You may have had a pet budgie,
or canary, or maybe even some chickens or ducks roaming around the back yard.
So it is no surprise that in the last 10 years or so, Aviculture (the Keeping & Breeding of Birds),
has grown in popularity all over the world.
Now instead of owning the humble green Budgie or pink & grey Galah,
you can own Lovebirds, Finches, an incredible variety of Parrots, Doves and Pigeons
[pink]It is heartbreaking to see large birds like Cockatoos, who are stuck in small cages not
being able to flap their wings. THIS IS ANIMAL ABUSE!!!
It is very important for the animals health & wellbeing to be able to fly.
Cage types vary not only in size, but shapes as well.
The most common cage type has wire all around.
While this type of cage appeals to the new owner (giving an unobstructed view of the bird),
it actually exposes your bird to draughts, noise & possible dangers in the house (like the cat),
which in turn could lead to your bird suffering from stress or catching a cold.
If you have a all-wire cage, you should place it in a relatively quiet,
draught-free area, and cover one side of the cage with a towel.
This will make your feathered friend feel somewhat protected.
Ornamental cages while pretty, are not at all practical for birds,
and also hard to clean.
Please select a functional cage for your bird, one that
will withstand constant cleaning & disinfecting.[/pink]
